Power trip

We went over to the apartment this morning and discovered, hallelujah, the electricity has been turned on. So tomorrow morning we're going to pack up, say good-bye to our hospitable hotel, and move in.

We will be camping for a while. The gas is not on as yet, which means no hot water. The only working kitchen appliances are the refrigerator and the single-burner induction hot plate that we bought in November. (The temporary mini-kitchen, essentially a sink, is in place but not yet hooked up. Ditto the clothes washer.)

The plumber thinks he'll be able to come the day after tomorrow, Wednesday morning, to at least hook up the temporary kitchen sink and fix the toilet, which leaks if you don't prop up its innards with a screwdriver.

Seen at Ikea today: two very stylish dogs
However, the snow is melting fast and the weather is warming. Pam and Romano are lending us a space heater. We have beds, pillows, an armoire, some bedside tables, and a couple of lamps that we moved in during our last visit. We have sheets, towels, quilts, kitchen knives, and pots and pans that we just hauled from California.

There's six pounds of pasta from Molise (my Italian ancestors' home province) that we bought at the local supermarket the other day because it was on sale (79 cents a pound US) and we were feeling homeless and a bit out of our minds. And today we bought a cutting board, a set of silverware and some glasses at Ikea.

I think we can make a go of this. And the gas is supposed to come on sometime this week.

Ack! I didn't mean to delete you, Colleen! So sorry. (All she said was that the dog sweaters are hilarious...hard to argue with that.)
