Also today, Pamela heard from the electric company that our paperwork is in good order (yay!) and that the power will go on...sometime on Monday or Tuesday (argh).
We've booked ourselves a few more nights at a hotel a couple of blocks away. The rooms are nice and warm, and otherwise comfortable enough, but thanks to last-minute booking we have to move to a new one each night. At this point I'm not even bothering to unpack anymore.
And yet, for no particular reason, this afternoon I found myself buoyantly happy about being here. I hope it lasts. I'll do my best to make it so.

What an interesting blog and hilarious in parts, very delightful. i am trying to imagine moving all that luggage thru the airports and across customs!
I will hope the utilities come on soon.
Buoyantly happy: Yes! Hang on to that. And remember that you are getting just the kind of hassle-filled welcome to Fidenza that will make you feel like a native, fast.
In my ideal world, BTW, everything would be flavored with Parmesan rind, always.
Buoyantly happy is about as good as it gets. Puts the snow and the utilities and the politics in their place.
