And three more things

1. The egg yolks here are really yellow.

I don't know if they actually taste more flavorful, or I just think so because they look so rich and delicious.

2. The supermarket near us sells guinea hens, rabbit, and lots of veal, in addition to the usual beef, lamb, pork, chicken, and turkey. For dinner tonight we bought a boned rabbit roast that came stuffed with some kind of meat-and-breadcrumb forcemeat. (I assume the stuffing was more rabbit, but the label wasn't clear.) Danny roasted it with potatoes--delizioso!

2. The sweet peppers here are immense. (Note that the cucumbers and eggplants on either side are normal size, not miniatures.) It's hard to imagine making stuffed peppers with these monsters; each one would feed two or three people.

They are beautiful, though. Most of the produce here really is beautiful. It's more limited than what's available in Berkeley, California--no tropical fruits, very little out-of-season stuff--but what is on offer at my local fruit and vegetable stand is beautiful and startlingly fresh.

This photo was taken at the supermarket, where the produce is still pretty good but seems like it has spent a little more time in transit.

I'm glad to see there is some fiber here. The people must be using cigarettes and espresso to achieve peristalsis. Orange yolks come from the caratenoids in the green the chickens have eaten. They taste a lot better than the pale yolks that come from a corn and soy diet.
